He was quite lucky to be born on the island of Mauritius where he spent his time in primary and secondary schools. His favorites subjects were chemistry and biology. The last four years on his island he did spend at the University of Mauritius for the study of laboratory medical sciences. He was so fascinated with biochemistry that after his graduation he started his medical study at the medical school in Antananarivo.
